Subject Verb Agreement
Subject और verb के बीच में numbers को लेकर जो agreement होता है। उसको subject verb agreement कहा जाता है। जैसे की – subject अगर plural है तो verb (helping verb) plural होगी। तो आइये कुछ ऐसी ही condition को करते हैं। जहा पर हमेशा confusion बनी रहती है।
Note: We will use the standard of bold subjects and verbs underline.
Rules 1
जब हम कोई phrase ( मुहावरा ) का use करते हैं, तो उस phrase में कुछ words plural होते हैं।
Example – A can of lima beans sits on the shelf.
आपको देखना है की subject plural है या singular जो आपको ऊपर phrase दिया गया है उसमे subject singular है A can, तो इसमे आप sits का use करोगे।
Rules 2
जब आपके पास indefinite pronoun है, तो उसमे आप singular verb का use करोगे जैसे की – Everything, everybody, nobody, each, either, no one, anybody, either, neither आदि। इस तरह से एक group बन जाता है जहा आपको ये पता नही होता की कितने लोग शामिल है वहाँ पर आप singular का use करेंगे।
Example – Each does a good deal of work around the office.
Rules 3
Plural indefinite pronoun अगर आपके पास होता है तो इसमे आप plural verb का use करोगे। जैसे की – Few, both, many, several आदि। इनमे से कोई word अगर आपके पास हो तो आप plural का इस्तेमाल करेंगे।
Example – Both do a good deal of work around office.
Rules 4
जब कोई uncountable pronoun होता है तो उस case में singular का use किया जाता है। और यदि वह countable हैं, मतलब जिसको आप count नही कर सकते, तो उस case में plural का use किया जाता है।
Example –
- Some of the sugar is on the floor. (singular)
- Some of the marbles are on the floor. (plural)

Rules 5
Compound Subjects में वो words आते हैं। जो and से जुड़े हुये शब्द होते हैं जैसे – A pencil & an eraser make writing easier इस तरह से word में plural का use किया जाता है।
- जब compound subject को or या not से जोड़ा जाए। तो उस case में जो verb के सबसे पास वाला subject होता है उसके according verb अपने आप को perform करता है।
Example – Neither the director not the actors are Following the line closely.
अगर actors की जगह director को replace कर दिया जाए, तो are की जगह is का use किया जाएगा।
Rules 6
Inverted subjects में कई बार helping verb पहले आती है और subject बाद में आता है। Example -There is a fly in my soup.
इसमे आप subject के हिसाब से rule को change कर सकते हैं।
Rules 7
Collective nouns में group बने हुये होते हैं। जैसे – group, jury, crowd, Team आदि । इसमे ये singular भी हो सकते हैं plural भी हो सकते हैं।
Example – The jury has awarded custody to the criminal.
इसमे जो jury बहुत से लोगो से मिलकर बना है। वो एक group है, तो उसके लिए has का use किया जाता है। अगर इसी को आप plural में बनाना चाहते हैं, तो वो बन जाएगा।
The jury members have been are going for five days.
Rules 8
जब titles और single Entities में हमेशा singular का इस्तेमाल किया जाता हैं। जैसे किसी book, movies, Country का title हैं, अगर उसमे plural words भी हैं तब भी singular का use किया जाएगा।
Example – The gropes of worth tapes of long time to read.
यह एक book का title है, तो इसमे singular के rules लगे है।
Rules 9a
बहुत से ऐसे words होते हैं, जो plural की form में होते हैं। उसको plural form subjects कहा जाता है। जैसे News, physics etc. जो ये plural form subject होते है उनके साथ singular verb का use किया जाता है।
Example: – News is watched by him.
Rules 9b
Plural Form subject with singular or plural meaning – इसमे कुछ ऐसे शब्द जो situation के according बदल जाते हैं। जैसे politics, economics etc.
Example – Politics an interesting subject.
यहा पर politics एक single subject की form में use हो रहा है इसके साथ singular का use किया जाएगा।
Example 2 – The politics of the situation were complicated.
Rule 9c
कुछ ऐसे भी plural subject होते है। जो हमेशा ही plural meaning देते हैं। Plural subject with plural meaning जैसे- scissors, shoes, trouser etc.
Example – The scissors are on the table.
Rules 10b
With subject and subjective complement of different number. – इसमे एक subject को compliment दिया जाता है।
Example – My favorite topic poem by long fellow.
इसमे आपका subject – Poem और compliment – my favorite topic जो की singular है। जब आप singular subjective compliment से sentence को start कर रहे हैं। तो वहाँ पर आप singular का use करोगे।
Rules 11a.
जब आपके sentence one of those se start होते है और उसके आगे who लग जाता है, तो यह sentence हमेशा plural में बनता है।
Example – Hanish is one of those people who like to read comic books.
Rule 11b.
इसके अलावा जब आपके sentence में with the only one of ….. who आ जाए। तो उसमे हमेशा singular का use किया जाता है।
Example – Hanish is the only one of those people who like to read comic books.
Rules 12a
अगर आपके पास कोई sentence With the number of से शुरू हो रहा है, तो यहा singular का use किया जाएगा।
Example – The number of volunteers grows each year.
Rule12b.
जब आपके sentence में A number of लग जाए, तो यह plural verb का use किया जाएगा।
Example – A number of people grow tomatoes every year.
Rules 13
जब आपका sentence every या many a से शुरू हो रहा है, तो वह पर singular verb का use किया जाएगा।
Example –
- Every man woman and child participates in the function.
- Many a child dreams about becoming famous one day.
